Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Associate Principal Second Violin

​

Baltimore native Kristin Bakkegard is an active violinist and teacher in the greater Washington, D.C. area. She is Associate Principal 2nd Violin of the Annapolis Symphony, a section member of Williamsburg Symphony, and formerly served as Principal 2nd Violin of Symphony Number One in Baltimore. Ms. Bakkegard also performs with several other orchestras in the region, including the Richmond Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, National Philharmonic, Maryland Symphony, and Delaware Symphony.

Ms. Bakkegard has appeared on multiple NPR Tiny Desk concerts: one with the British band alt-J, and another with Billy Corgan, the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning band The Smashing Pumpkins. She performs with the Annapolis Chamber Players, has appeared as guest artist with DC-based Shepherd Trio, and was a founding member of the Laurel Quartet. Ms. Bakkegard has soloed with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Montgomery College Orchestra. She has also performed solo for events at the Norwegian and Finnish Embassies.

In addition to performing, Ms. Bakkegard is also an enthusiastic teacher; she not only maintains a busy private studio, but has taught violin/piano at Creative Minds International Charter School in DC, has been a string coach at Strathmore’s East County Strings program in Bethesda, and currently works with string students at the Performing and Visual Arts Program at Bates Middle School in Annapolis. She also is a member of the Live Wire String Quartet in Baltimore, performing interactive educational shows in Baltimore City Public Elementary Schools.

Ms. Bakkegard has performed internationally in Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Canada, and attended festivals including the National Repertory Orchestra, National Orchestral Institute, and AIMS in Graz, Austria. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance from Ithaca College and the University of Maryland – College Park, respectively. Her primary teachers have consisted of members of the Baltimore and National Symphony Orchestras.
